    Description

Fox Valley Models N 40102 1935 Bunk Coach, Milwaukee Road (Original Brown Roof) #4446
Fox Valley Models N 40102 Milwaukee Road 1935 bunk coach car was designed around the standard 1935 built coaches. The main spotting feature is a different window arrangement. This is for different sections in the car including fold down bunks for sleeping arrangements. The cars were intended to carry local passengers and rest areas for crews on the Olympian Hiawatha, and were also used on other overnight trains. The
    Hiawatha's
were named passenger trains operated by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad (also known as the Milwaukee Road), and traveled from Chicago to the Two Cities in Minnesota. The original train takes its name from The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There are a number of Hiawatha-themed names within the city of Minneapolis, the terminus of the original train. The Hiawatha inaugurated service
    between
Chicago and the Twin Cities on May 29, 1935, on a regular, daily 6-hour schedule covering 410 miles. The first Milwaukee Road
    Hiawatha's
were streamlined lightweight trains designed to meet competition from Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad's (Burlington-Route), Twin Cities
    Zephyrs
, and Chicago and North Western's Railway's Twin Cities 400. Unlink the diesel-powered Zephyrs, the Hiawatha trains were pulled by steam locomotives of the Atlantic (4-4-2) wheel arrangement, thought the trains were by no means slow or old-fashioned. Features Fox Valley Models N scale already assembled 1935 bunk coach car features finely molded details, accurate paint and lettering, metal wheelsets, wire grab irons, and Micro-Trains couplers.
