the JNR series60 passenger wagon group was a variety of JNR steel sided, round roofed passenger cars produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s by modifying existing wooden sided passenger vehicles........the stimulus for jnr"s conversion of these older designs was a horrific train wreck with 200+ fatalities in 1947 whose causality total was partially attributed to outmoded, wooden sided wagon designs....the transformation was accomplished by the entire spectrum of JNR manufacturing partners and in house manufacturing plants............the reconfigured wagons retained 20 meters long and 2.9 meters wide footprint......the oha61 specifically was the 3rd class wagon of the series...1052 wagons were produced to these 3rd class specifications, each seating 96 passengers...........
