TLS as a Member of Congress, requesting Republican help in establishing a fish hatchery in North Carolina.

On his Congressional letterhead to Charles B. Deaver, Brevard, North Carolina.
In full:
"I am sending you a number of fish blanks. I have not in my office as many as you wish, but am ordering some of them from the Department and will send you a supply when they reach me. I am interested in establishing a fish hatchery there and in all probability it would be established about the Pisgah lands. If you republicans would get in and help me a little and not let politics interfere I think we could easily do it. I think I can accomplish it anyway, but when I get the matter under way I am going to ask you and your friends there to help me with the Republicans here. We ought to have it. Our forests pay far more into the Government each year than is necessary to maintain them and the talk about appropriations should not dry up all internal improvements. I want you to think about this and write me. Sincerely yours".
North Carolina Democrat
Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) served in the US Congress 1917-1919, 1921-1929, 1931-1947.
Unlike most North Carolina districts in that era, Weaver's district was competitive; he lost to Republican opponents in 1918 and 1930. This situation explains his need for Republican assistance for the fishery proposed here. Weaver's main accomplishment in Congress was another conservation initiative, establishment of the
Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
